There is one name that can never be forgotten when it comes to the promotion of music and entertainment in Ghana and Africa at large.This name comes with a voice you often here on Radio Gold(90.5FM) and sometimes see on TV.The personality behind this face and voice is Kofi Okyere Darko(KOD).
Kofi has been a valuable asset to the industry for the past thirteen years when he bounced onto the scene. Not too long ago, he led a delegation of music and movie stars to South Africa where they were offered “mouth-watering” contracts as ambassadors of Glo;the latest telecommunications network in Ghana. Movie and music stars such as Tinny, Asem, Edem,Kwabena Kwabena,Van Vicker, Jackie Appiah,Reggie-Rockstone among others are now Glo ambassadors courtesy KOD.
The 32 year old presenter is the last of 7 children.Kofi is happily married to Ophelia(a fashion designer) and has been blessed with a four-month-old lovely daughter called Ohemaa.
KOD joined Radio Gold from Sunshine Radio where he actually started radio together with Kwesi Kyei Darkwa(KKD) his cousin in 1997 at the age of 19.At Gold, he’s been on almost every show from morning to midnight shows. He is currently the host of African Safari on Gold 90.5Fm.
Kofi has taken Africa by storm ,feeding his listeners with dozens of inspirational messages,vital information and the very hottest and tastiest music brewed right here in Africa.His effort for the promotion of entertainment on the continent has seen him pick an award for ”the commitment and enhancement of entertainment in Africa” in Nigeria.
You may have also seen him on TV as well.He has hosted a good number of shows on TV over the years some of which were organized by Charter House.He hosted the very first and second editions of Miss Maliaka with Black Cofie,Ghana Music Awards,Mentor 4 among others.
He owns Blaqkapricorn which is basically into the production and management of artists.The company has over the years managed Artists such as Tinny,Ofori Amponsah,Daasebre Dwamena,Wutah,Kwabena Kwabena and a host of others.Well, guess what,negotiations are still ongoing to get VIP,Trigmatic and Ramzy of Stars of the Future fame on this label.
For lovers of fashion,Kofi is coming out next year with a new clothing line which will provide suits to cooperate people.Fashion has been one aspect of this man and anyone who has met him can attest to this.It is not surprising that Kofi finally got married to a fashion designer.
Kofi has always been there for people and believes that everybody can achieve his or her dream only if they are confident and will believe in themselves.
